Dr Monoj Das, aged 42 (Professional Engineer at Sydney Water), of Rawson Street, Rockdale (and from Sylhet, Bagladesh) passed away last night at 12.30 am (Saturday midnight) at St George Hospital. He was suffering from Colon Cancer, diagnosed in Sydney in late 2004 and was critically ill last week at the hospital's Oncology Unit.

A brlilliant BUET student, he obtained his PhD in Engineering from Japan before moving to Sydney in the late 90's. He was working at Sydney Water since 2001. He is remembered by his wife, Alea Ferdous Heera, and 2 minor daughters Progya Priya (age 11) and Prapti Priya (age 8). We give our condolences and heartfelt sympathy for them at this time of great sadness and loss, and hope they will find the strength to lead a normal life.

Although born in a Hindu Family, in Sylhet, Bangladesh (parents passed away but also has two brothers and a sister in Bangladesh), Monoj married a Muslim girl and he died as a Muslim (Name: Minhas Kabir). He is the 3rd child of his parents out of 4 children.

After all the formalities at the Hospital, his body is being transferred to Lakemba (Main Mosque and Islamic Centre, Wangee Road). His burial/funeral service is on today. His Namaj-e-Janaza is scheduled for after Johour prayer around 12 noon, Monday 15 May 2006, and following the Janaza he will either be buried at Rookwood Cemetery (Muslim Section) or Liverpool Cemetery (Muslim Section, corner of Moore St and Flowedale Road). The place of burial will be confirmed tomorrow.

Community members and friends of other faiths could show their respect and pray for him, see him after he will be washed/cleaned at Lakemba Mosque at 10.30 am Monday. They can also attend the mosque during Janaza prayer around 12 noon, and female mourners are to wear hijabs (head scarf) within the mosque.
